South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Townsville Grammar School

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210728

FROM: Townsville to Townsville

DATE: 31 July 2021

POSITION: Herald Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

Blue Watch all got up at 0600 to clean the brass. Afterwards at 0630 we woke up everyone else to have breakfast. We ate our cereal and then raised the anchor. We remained on Watch until 0800 and thereafter we ate our hot breakfast (bacon and eggs). Between 0800 and 1000 Evan caught a mackerel just under 50cm, meaning we could not keep it.

From 1000 to 1200 we made our way out of the Hinchinbrook Channel. 1130 after leaving the channel, at Lucinda we hoisted the sails. Blue watch on Mainsail, White watch was on the Foresail and Red on the Staysail and Jib. Blue Watch had lunch, amazing burritos by the absolute legend Cath. We made our way from Lucinda to Havannah Island. After this we went on watch from 1200 to 1500.

We dropped anchor at Havannah at 1430, for a quick swim from the boat. We raised the sails once again with wind speed picking up to 15 kts heading towards Rattlesnake and Herald Island. We dropped anchor just off Herald at 1735.

Before dinner we had 2 knotting competitions, one with the clove hitch and the other with the sheet bend. Blue Watch came 2nd in the clove hitch and 3rd in the sheet bend, unfortunately. We had some delicious dinner once again by the legend Cath, which was beef stew and also peach and custard for desert.

After some free time we elected leaders for tomorrow’s journey home with Huon being skipper, Evan navigator and Gabe sail master. The watch leaders were Max for Blue Watch, Pip for Red Watch and Aimee for White Watch. All the leaders planned for tomorrow until 2100. Everyone went to bed at 2130 and Evan and Max wrote this awesome log.
