South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Sail and Walk Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210711

FROM: Townsville to Townsville

DATE: 16 July 2021

POSITION: Magnetic Is

REPORT BY: Red Watch

Red watch, as per usual, were Red, Red, Ready for a new day. With a rag in one hand and a bottle of Brasso in the other, we set to work on the brass work.  The rising sun only added a golden glow to the results of our toil.

The musical delights of the bugle playing, once again rang out at 0630 as sleep deprived bodies slowly arose for another day of excitement and adventure.  After a furiously contested knot-tying contest, we weighed anchor and headed to Esk Island.

With South Passage secure at anchor, it was time to explore. Several dinghy trips to the beach had the shore party underway, while those that wanted to snorkel had taken to the water.

The shore party enjoyed their walk while collecting a substantial amount of rubbish, to support Clean-up Australia, enough to fill the dingy returning to the ship.  After pulling up anchor and setting course for Magnetic Island, we all feasted on Lou’s delicious spag-bol. Enroute, we passed whales, dolphins and a sea snake.

We dropped anchor in Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island at 1545 (3.45pm) which allowed sufficient time to form several landing parties.  While some plodded along the surrounding walking trails, others took on the task of supporting the local community by visiting the Marlin Bar.  It was very enjoyable and relaxing way to toast and chat about a fantastic voyage and experience.
