VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210628

FROM: Cairns to Townsville

DATE: 29 June 2021

POSITION:  Fitzroy Island

REPORT BY: White Watch

The day began with the chef’s magnificent scrambled eggs and beans which brightened the gloomy morning.  We stayed the day at Fitzroy Island and did many various activities. After breakfast, around mid-morning, the whole crew went on a trek all the way up to the Fitzroy Island lighthouse. Due to the overcast conditions, it meant a precarious and gusty trek up the mountain which meant many laughs along the way.

After the trek, we all came back to the ship to be greeted by a lovely meal for lunch as we were all needing it after the hike. After the lunch the sea greeted us with open arms as we dived into the aqua blue water.  The sea was covered in a vast array of beautiful yet dangerous animals, creating a cacophony of emotions with which we had never felt before. As the bomb dives crashed into the sea, we thrived in happiness, something which we accepted without delay. One of the foreseeable pinnacles of the trip was the amazing opportunity to swim with beautiful turtles that called this magnificent place home.

To embrace our competitive sides, each watch was tasked with the most efficient operation of the backstays. With severe perseverance and the power of teamwork, the white watch took the prize with gloating smiles. As we embarked on a hard yet exciting day, we completed our last task of the day which challenged our competitive nature. We had to tie a reef not which took round 20 seconds each. With stress, anxiety and precision all thrown into the mix, all teams were equally matched in raw pace. However, the blue team came out with glory as they came together as a group. Many conversations were struck alight as we had our final meal of the day.
