South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Gold Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210405

FROM: Gladstone to Manly

DATE: 8 April 2021

POSITION:  Inskip Point

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

After arriving late at night to the outskirts of Fraser Island, our young sailors were woken by some actual bugle playing at 6:30 AM rather than a Youtube video on a phone. We soon raised the anchor and moved into Frasier’s channel, arriving at the resort at about 11:00 AM.

After much hard sailing, we were in desperate need of a swim in one of the Island’s freshwater pools, although not all of us were keen to go on the hour long hike that followed it. The hike led us through the training grounds of the Z-Force, a group of majority Australian soldiers who trained in secret to bring down Japanese armed forces in World War Two. Our crew gave a minute’s silence in honour of those whose lives were lost behind enemy lines before heading back to the resort for one last cooldown.

We then headed back to South Passage and raised the anchor for the second time that day. An evening of relatively calm waves was interrupted by the need to drop the anchor at Inskip Point and the crew lowered the sails as we took up our watch.
