CLIENT: Tangalooma Weekend Escape
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20201031
FROM: Manly to Manly
DATE: 31 October 2020
POSITION: Tangalooma, Moreton Is
REPORT BY: Blue Watch
The people who boarded South Passage on Friday night had a very early morning waking up and moving around at 5.00am. It will be interesting to see if there will be a repeat performance tomorrow after today.
The remainder of the crew and passengers arrived on board before 8.30 am. After taking passengers below to set up their bunks, fitting PFD’s and explaining the operation of the heads and shower, we went up the emergency hatch to get on deck to do some basic training on how to belay and sweat halyards, then Skipper Bill gave the welcome on board and COVID briefing and Sailing Master Peter gave the safety briefing. Peter had Watchleader Kathy model the coastal life jacket.
We left the jetty and headed into Waterloo Bay and hoisted sails. We sailed around the southern end of Green Island and hardened onto the wind to beat our way to Tangalooma against a strong north easterly. Unfortunately some of the crew had a visit from that unwanted relation, Mal De- Mer. After doing several tacks we had a hiccup with the jib blowing out. We sailed over to the big sand hills on Moreton Island where we anchored to ride out the storms. Once the storms had passed, we up anchor and motored to Tangalooma and dropped the anchor at 19.30.
Everyone had gone to bed well before lights out, looking forward to a calmer sunny day tomorrow and going ashore at Tangalooma before heading home
