FROM: Mackay To: Airlie Beach

DATE: 25 May 2024

POSITION: Shaw Is

REPORT: White Watch

Departed Mackay around 0900 and had a bit of difficulty getting off the wharf as the wind was blowing us on. We rigged a spring to the adjacent wharf and after several attempts and casting the heaving line across 20m of water we eventually got the line on board. This allowed us to drive forward while pulling us away from our wharf.

Sails up in the harbour. The wind was 20 knots from the south-east and moved east as the day progressed. On a starboard tack for 30 Nautical miles heading north, we had beautiful views, some great waves and even saw some dolphins playing in the bow waves.

We then gybed to head west for another 25 Nautical miles, passing many islands including the Sir James Smith Group to port, before rounding Shaw Island on starboard. At Shaw Island we gybed again and headed up to anchor in the lee of the island. We were at anchor before 1700. Once all the sails were stowed away we had a slightly chilly sunset swim before a delicious tea was served.
