South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20240513

FROM: Hervey Bay To: Rosslyn Bay

DATE: 16 May 2024

POSITION: Cape Capricorn

REPORT: Blue Watch

The day started early with two Anchor alerts due to high winds, this made for an exciting night for white watch who then drew straws on who was going wake the Skipper, Skipper resolved the problem and thanked the crew for being alert.

In lieu of the crashing waves in Pancake Creek we heard the crashing of the Pancake mix in the galley. We had just weighed anchor and were motoring out into the seaway when we experienced a significant swell which was the instigator of this catastrophe, Cook Hugh rose to the occasion unaverred and made a new batch. In the meantime we were having our daily rope tying competition, todays knot was a Bowline. We were informed that falling overboard during the competition would be considered a breach of the rules.

Captain ordered the PFDs to be worn on deck and then we raised the Jib and Foresail. The Blue Watch flourished under the esteemed direction of Stefan. Ataraxia and eudaemonia was a general feeling of Blue Watch.

We played chicken with a couple of container ships, general evasive manoeuvres were successfully deployed. The skipper complimented the speed of the Gybe. We continued north fishtailing significantly less than on previous days, much to the Skipper’s delight. Two passengers pretended to be Sirens on the Bowsprit alongside our figurehead to try and attract dolphins, they managed to attract two.

Special mention to Hugh on taking us on a gastronomic adventure whilst catering to the dietary needs of all crew.

We entered Cape Capricorn to come out of the swell into calmer waters. We set the anchor and tendered the tender to ferry the keen intrepid adventurers who wished to climb to the Cape Capricorn light house ashore. One of the passengers, Vivienne who was a light housekeeper 40 years ago at this location led the group.

Later in the afternoon the skipper conducted fire drill training with the crew. The day concluded with another international meal (butter chicken), and a semi unhinged journal entry from Blue Watch.
