CLIENT: Gold Youth Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20240401
FROM: Gladstone To: Manly
DATE: 3 April 2024
POSITION: en route to Urangan
REPORT: Blue Watch
We spent the night in the peaceful waters of Lady Musgrave, and there was no internet or mobile phone connection. Hey, Mom and Dad, we survived! But we did have radio and satellite telephone if needed to contact shore.
We started the morning at 0630 with the sound of the bugle. We had cold breakfast and then we did the first knotting competition which was tying reef knot. And we bounced back from the last competition by taking out the W. We then enjoyed Hugh’s hot breakfast of pancakes. After this breakfast some people went swimming in the clear waters of the ship.
We then were tasked with manually bringing the anchor up using capstan and manual pump which was an experience! After this, we began our journey at about 1000 in what would be a full day and night voyage, in which we would be at our destination, Harvey Bay, at about 2400.
The highlight of the day was when we saw heaps of dolphins and their babies, who seemed to be following us as we sailed across the reefs and ocean. So far, this trip has been an adventure, and has opened the eyes of the blue watch in terms of the unexplored wonderful nature that Queensland has to offer!
We are excited to get sailing again tomorrow morning, where we will have our first stop off at Urangan, just to dump rubbish and pick some water up. See you soon!
