South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Ormiston College

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20180921

FROM: Manly TO: Manly

DATE: 22 Sept 2018

POSITION: Cowan Cowan

REPORT BY: White Watch

Our watch started at 0400 with anchor watch. This found that all overnight movement was typical and there was no need to wake Skipper. By 0600, all of White Watch was awake and began cleaning the Brass at the Helm with Brasso.

White Watch then ate breakfast and raised the head sails. At 0900, the anchor was brought up and by 0930, the ship was underway, leaving Tangalooma. The ship completed a 180˚ starboard tack to change direction from S to N. Next, South Passage sailed in the Inner Freeman Channel to reach North Point at the top of Moreton Island for a shore excursion. Here, the sails were lowered we were transferred to the beach in the dingy and enjoyed playing in the surf and running down the dunes.

At 1500, we were transported back to the ship and assisted other watches in raising the main sail before doing our job of raising the jibsail and staysail. Finally, we sailed back around to Cowan. Many dolphins and whales were spotted traveling to and from North Point. At approximately 1745, the anchor was dropped in Cowan where the ship will stay for the night. Originally, we were going to anchor in North Point but it was too rough.  Annabel and Claudia
