FROM: Manly To: Manly

DATE: 12 November 2023

POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is

REPORT: White Watch

As the ship drifted away from the port, we began our grand odyssey. From Manly Marina, we worked as a team to hoist the sails (our sail was the main sail) while learning how to manoeuvre the ship, using our new knowledge of operating the backstays, tacking, flaking, and halyards. We settled into our bunks and used the emergency escape hatch as part of our safety briefing before departing.

After the whole group hoisted the sails, we began our first watch. During the watch we rotated roles over the next two hours. The jobs consisted of steering the ship (helm), watching the helm, charting the coordinates, checking the deck, stand by starboard and port lookout. Once the two hours of watch were completed, we were able to relax and have free time. Some of us laid on the rope at the front of the ship with harnesses on (bowsprit) and had a nap. The ship heeled and Jon nearly fell overboard.

Then it was time to go swimming! We all jumped off the sailing ship. Jemma slipped and did an epic bomb dive and tackled a jellyfish in the ocean. Did not drown. Thank goodness. Jack and Jon kissed the fake gold mermaid on the lips and jumped back onto the ship. We completed a rope tying contest coming out on top with 1:07 mins! Dinner was scrumptious (chicken, rice and vegies)
