CLIENT: St Johns College Lismore

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20231010

FROM: Manly to Coffs Harbour

DATE: 10 October 2023

POSITION: Blakesley’s, North Stradbroke Is

REPORT: White Watch

We awoke at 6:30 on Tuesday morning to have a cold breakfast before competing in a one round two half hitches knot competition between watches – which our watch won. Afterwards, we were greeted with a hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, baked beans and toast and of course tidied up the mess.

Finally, it was time to prepare the sails before setting off out of the marina at 9:00. White watch wasn’t on watch until 12:00 so we spent the morning watching the sea, where we saw a mother whale and it’s calf cruising past. When our watch came around, we rotated between port and starboard lookouts, deck check and the helm where we were able to single handedly steer the ship.

We dropped anchor off the shore of North Stradbroke Island and took the tender to the shore and even spotted a dugong! Back on the ship, we had another knot competition – this time a reef knot – which our watch won again. Dinner came around quickly, we ate chicken drumsticks, rice, gravy, peas, and carrots. We finished the day on watch where we took our bearings, entered a log in the logbook and learnt about features of the nav table.
