VOYAGE NUMBER:  20230925

FROM: Hervey Bay to Manly

DATE: 27 Sept 2023

POSITION: Tangalooma

REPORT: Blue Watch

We started our morning at 5am, working as a team to raise the anchor. All hands were on deck as one person hosed the chain, one person flaked it below and many of us helped wind up the anchor with the wheel and pump the hose. We then sailed with just the motor for a couple of minutes but raised the sails later. We had some cold breakfast (cereal), and hot breakfast (hash browns and toast).

After that, many of us went back to bed due to the early morning start but some of us sat up on deck to breath some fresh air as we crossed Wide Bay Bar. If we sat on the deck, we had to wear our PFDs in case we fell overboard. When crossing the bar, there were rough conditions that made us feel very nauseous and some of us had to sit out of our watches.

Through the difficult trip, we supported each other as best we could, bringing each other buckets, water or simply staying by each other’s side. During our watches we had to keep look out for any boats and buoys that the helms man may find difficult to see. For lunch we had spaghetti bolognaise and for dinner we had rice with chicken stir fry.

Around 6pm we got to Moreton Bay and lowered the sails and anchor. We began to wind down for the day so we can wake up at 6:30 tomorrow.
