CLIENT: Townsville Grammar School
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20230726
FROM: Townsville to Townsville
DATE: 27 July 2023
POSITION: Hazard Bay, Orpheus Is
REPORT: Red Watch
This morning we were awoken from our beds at 1:30am to carry out our watch duties that involved getting compass bearings and measuring windspeed. We then wrote into our logbooks our findings, location, wind speed and direction, and air pressure. The night sky was very beautiful and we could see the milky way. Then we went back to bed and woke up again at 6:30am for breakfast and the first knot tying competition.
To get started, we manually pulled the anchor with capstan and teamwork. After that we learnt how to sail the ship on the way to Orpheus Island. We completed many activities including gybing, navigation, helming, and relaxing on the bowsprit net. Then we anchored up and had a cold swim at the beach. We climbed rocks, found shells, snorkelled and dug people into the sand. Finally, we finished off with a knot tying competition, so far we have learnt the reef knot, figure 8, round turn and 2 half hitches. We had bangers and mash for dinner.
