CLIENT: Bronze Youth Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20230429
FROM: Manly to Manly
DATE: 29 April 2023
POSITION: Tangalooma, Moreton Is
REPORT: White Watch
We boarded South Passage via Manly Boat Harbour. Then we used the engine to get to the middle of the bay before releasing the sails. Firstly, we went through training with our watch leader, Brendon. Our watch group worked together to put up the mainsail.
Around 11:30 we got lunch which consisted of rolls with ham, salami and salad options (and mayo). We began boating to Tangalooma and we were on watch from 12:15 to 2. During this watch we rotated from steering the helm, port lookout, starboard lookout, standby port and starboard lookout and deck check.
When we got to Tangalooma, we anchored the ship around 300m from the shore. We then lowered the mainsail and fastened the ropes. Shortly after, we headed to shore in the tender in groups of 6. Some went swimming and others played touch. Then we headed up the shore to a sand dune and we all climbed up to the top. Sam and Germaine rolled down the hill. We then caught the boat back.
Most of us had showers and got changed into dry clothes. At about 5:30 we had a rope tying competition and our groups time was 2.54 minutes and, in our hearts, we beat the other teams. The highest time reached 5 minutes.
For dinner we had chicken drumsticks, served with rice, carrot and peas and a special curry/gravy. Yum. We then had dessert which was apple pie with custard. Yum. There were people playing card games and others wrote in their log book.
Our next watch is at 4am to 8am and we are all looking forward to it!
