CLIENT: Voyage of Friends
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20170623
FROM: Cairns TO: Townsville
DATE: 23 June 2017
POSITION: Fitzroy Island
Report by: Blue Watch
Set sail late, waiting for the bread. Progressed up river, did 3 donuts to unwrap the flag. All watches practised knots and all other jobs on deck in calm weather. Then the wind got up and the rain so a few succumbed to seasickness whilst our first tack was underway. Unfortunately, due to the rough conditions the blue watch who had the tacking job forgot their tacking lesson.
Fortunately, the long termers in the crew stepped in and helped out with timely instructions, the tack was successful and we arrived at Fitzroy Island for a welcome rest. Stan, in the red watch (cheaters), by turning a very sprightly age allowed us to indulge in a little birthday cheer.
Following Stan’s wild party, some of us took the little red dinghy to the shore, some swam, some walked to the lighthouse whilst others relaxed in the bar.
The first round of the knot competition was underway just before dinner. The blue watch leader was nowhere to be seen so unfortunately the blue team’s will to win (despite Gaye’s best efforts) failed to take out the first round by .02 of a second to the red watch (cheaters).
The person nominated to catch our dinner was a failure. Just as well, our culinary Cath came through with the goods and a fab dinner.
As tomorrow will be a big sailing day, it’s over and out from your blue watch correspondent.
