South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Somerset College

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20190909

FROM: Hervey Bay To: Manly

DATE: 9 September 2019

POSITION:  Point Vernon, Hervey Bay

REPORT BY: Red Watch

Today was a day we will never forget. We boarded the ship at Hervey Bay where we were introduced to our watch leaders and the vessel we would be calling home for the next four days. As we make our beds, our excitement builds as lunchtime is called for in the Galley. Thanks Hugh!

We set sail past the jetty at around 1500 where we were guided through our first sailing experience. The staff of The South Passage Voyage were experienced and willing to answer all our questions and make sure we felt safe. We learnt how to put the sails up and down, tack and even steer the helm. The waves crashed against the boat, requiring us to drop the main and hold on for dear life. Needless to say, we were all soaking wet in the first 10 minutes. Standing at a 45 degree angle became a second custom and we knew that for the next three days, we were in for a wild ride.
