South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Silkwood School

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20220503

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 4 May 2022

POSITION: Blakesleys, North Stradbroke Is

REPORT BY: White Watch

Today white watch woke up at 6:00 am. We got dressed and headed up to the deck where we polished the brass on the wheel of the ship. After we had finished, we then proceeded to wake everyone up for breakfast. While eating breakfast we were on the lookout for sea creatures and managed to spot a massive sea turtle – we nick named him ‘Jimbo’. We all ate at approximately 7:00 am, and after breakfast had a knot tying competition in which we emerged victorious.

At about half past eight, everyone went in the dingy to Moreton Island and climbed the sand dunes  where we proceeded to sand board down the dunes and lounge in the oasis. After our climb we returned to the South Passage where some people had a swim shortly before lunch.

After lunch we raised the anchor and took sail to Blakesleys Lagoon; during our sail we practiced tacking and putting the backstays on and off, we dropped anchor at Blakeleys Lagoon for the night.

White watch was the last group on watch; we stayed up and filled in our booklets, practiced tying the bowline knot, and navigation. We also filled in the logbook and used the handheld compass to check our position. Everyone was exhausted from the long day, so they went to bed at lights out.

After getting used to the order of the ship, everyone has started to enjoy the experience, and make new connections such as playing cards with people they don’t normally interact with, chatting with the crew, and learning new things about each other. The crew is exceptionally nice, chatty and were very accommodating. They lead each of their watches with clear instructions and help the students with reassuring guidance and the aura of experience. The hospitality is exceptional, with delicious, healthy food, and the ease of a friendly conversation.
