South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: The Cathedral School

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20190805

FROM: Townsville To: Townsville

DATE: 15 August 2019

POSITION:  Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Is

REPORT BY: Group C Blue Watch

Half of blue watch woke up at 5:15am and completed South Passage adventure manuals including maps, memorabilia and some personal recounts. The other half of the watch group woke up at 6am to help polish brass pieces aboard the ship and at 6:30am the bugle was sounded by a watch member to awake the others.

After a cold breakfast all the watch groups competed against each other in a knot tying contest where a reef knot was tied by each participant of the watch groups. A fantastic hot breakfast of scrambled eggs and baked beans were served by the cook, Hugh. We then completed morning duties such as cleaning the galley and heads.

We prepared for a day of sailing and began raising the anchor, once the anchor was raised we planned our voyage for Magnetic Island. During the rough journey we tacked the sails in order to get to our destination. Throughout the day we operated in different areas of the boat as watch duty. These roles included; Helm and Standby Helm, Port Lookout and Standby Port Lookout, Deck Check and Starboard Lookout.

After approximately 7 hours of choppy waters we pulled into Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island to anchor for the night before the last leg back to Townsville. Once a wonderful dinner was concluded we moved up to the deck to enjoy each-others company while singing some songs and strumming the guitar. The whole group ended up dozing off until they woke up for their watch during the night/early morning. Signing off, Maddy, Sarah and Chelsea.
