South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20200108

FROM: Sydney To: Brisbane

DATE: 10 January 2020

POSITION:  Newcastle Harbour

REPORT BY: White Watch

We began the day on watch at 4.00am for anchor duty. Despite being half asleep, we powered through the Duke of Ed paperwork, daily log and polished the brass to perfection. Josh failed to play the bugle to wake everyone up, however his frantic puffing woke everyone up pretty effectively. Cold breakfast was served around 7am, followed by a crazily competitive rope tying competition which we absolutely smashed (GO WHITE WATCH!) Hot breakfast by Hugh the chef was delicioussss, a meal that well prepared everyone for the hard core backstay competition to follow.

The highlight of the day was a trip to Stockton Beach, where the sun and swimming left many crew members glowing bright red. At 1pm we all returned to South Passage in time for burgers, shortly followed by a navigation lesson run by the skipper. This was really useful for skill development, finally helping us make sense of the crazy charts we had to read before. To finish the afternoon, another knot tying competition for reef knots was held… no prizes for guessing the winner…. WHITE!

As there was no sailing today, we focused on training and preparation during watches, filling out log books and navigation. Dinner was really nice, steak and veggies and kept us all full until the end of the day. Overall we had a great time.
