VOYAGE NUMBER:  20200108

FROM: Sydney To: Brisbane

DATE: 14 January 2020

POSITION:  Gold Coast Broadwater

REPORT BY: Red Watch

We are excited to say that we have reached one of many milestone destinations of our journey sailing with South Passage, the long awaited arrival at Southport, QLD. We arrived in the early hours of the afternoon (2:00pm, AEST), after our long sail through the night up from Coffs Harbour, NSW. On the late morning of Monday (yesterday, the 13th), after seeing dolphins in the harbour, we were reluctant to head out of Coffs Harbour and begin our long journey north towards Southport.
The weather was relatively calm sweeping away the cloud cover that had been following us since we left Sydney to bring a lovely sunny day. Many of us were a bit light on applying sunscreen and ended up getting a bit sunburnt (but all is good and we have applied a copious amounts of aloe vera). Throughout the day all watches had the joy of gybing to make sure we remained on course and reached our destination on time, although the weather didn’t favour us as we arrived after the desired time frame.
We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon swimming at South Stradbroke and relaxing in the sun before a wonderfully prepared dinner. With the wonderful memories of the many pods of dolphin we were lucky enough to have escort us as we travelled along the eastern coast of Australia, finishing with a beautiful sunset that turned the sea to gold, truly, a surreal experience. With two days remaining the entire crew is eager for tomorrow’s journey to Tangalooma and our sorely missed beds (and families of course).
