South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Silver Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20200922

FROM: Manly to Hervey Bay

DATE: 24 September 2020

POSITION:  South White Cliffs, Great Sandy Strait

REPORT BY: Red Watch

Today we woke up at 5:15 and prepared to sail out of Tangalooma. We lifted the anchor and used the engine to take us away from the wrecks, we then hoisted the sails but due to lack of wind we were unable to rely purely on the wind alone. The wind picked up in the afternoon as we headed towards Double Island point. Everyone on board got to experience each position on deck and all were capable of the responsibility.

Along the voyage we saw marine life including whales and dolphins; we also caught a Mahi-mahi (Dolphin fish). The wind reached an approximate speed of 14 knots in the afternoon with a boat speed of about 10 knots. As we passed the lighthouse we adjusted our course towards Fraser Island. At 6 o’clock we dropped the sails because we were now in a channel between the mainland and Fraser Island. We are currently sailing through the night along the Great Sandy Strait, all watch member’s thoroughly enjoyed the day’s sail. Adam, Phoenix, Sarah, Alyse, Lauren
