South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Youth Gold Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20201204

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 6 December 2020

POSITION:  Heading South

REPORT BY: White Watch

The South Passage voyagers began the morning by pulling up the anchor one struggling step at a time. Breakfast followed with an array of cereals and pancakes on offer. At 7:30am our knot competition began. Every watch participated to achieve the fastest time tying the figure 8, with white watch taking out first place followed by red then blue watch.

The real day began with our 24 hour sail. With the foresail, jib and staysail in use all day, sea sickness and sleeping followed. Many of us enjoyed the rough waters while others weren’t so keen. For lunch, our lovely chief Hugh cooked us up a STORM (also known as Burritos). This meal was followed by fried rice for dinner.

Towards the end of the day, 6 dolphins were spotted playing in the waves. Many jumping whilst others just enjoying racing the boat, it was definitely a once in a life time experience!

The record speed for the day was 12 knots, with Maddi Parker on helm at the time. Steering the ship was definitely a challenge due to the massive swells and us only learning but we managed with our Skipper Bill guiding us.

We all thought sleeping the night through whilst the boat was continuously moving would be difficult but with the combination of exhaustion and sunburn we all went to sleep pretty quickly. Maddi & Kaylee
