Today was a long day, in fact, it was so long that this is being written the day after. At 0110. The day started for the majority with the bugle from the watch on Brass Cleaning, who didn’t even have to clean the brass. We started with our cereal, toast and porridge keeping us energised for the rope tying competition which started at 0700. Whilst white watch did come last, it was close, only losing to 2nd by .9 of a second when tying the figure 8 knots. Then followed our hot breakfast, consisting of delicious pancakes with as many toppings as you could stack on the top.
After all of the watches were fed, most changed into our swimmers and gathered our snorkels. We were ready to tender onto the Sudbury Cay which we had been eyeing the day before. The Cay was a great thing to see with star fish, turtles, sea cucumbers and many other ocean wildlife. Many photos were taken and only a few scratches needed to be sprayed with Betadine.
By the time we had returned to the sailing ship, it was about lunch time, enjoying some soft tacos to eat, with some people taunting others by adding tomato sauce to their otherwise delicious meal, cooked by Cath.
After this followed the sailing part of the day, which is still going on around me as I write this “Daily Report”. We tacked back and forth inching towards our goal of 40 nautical miles for the day, during this sailing the white watch got a well-deserved rest having 2 of our 3 hour shift taken up by another watch, as they had missed out on much sailing to date.
However this relaxation was not universal with the weather turning for the worse towards the end of the day, with torrential rainfall, making those not on deck very grateful for the position which they were in. But we suffered through the rain, the waves, and the sea sickness of those who didn’t have the same iron will as myself! We have finally reached our end result at Mourilyan Harbour, with the white watch bringing up the rear and bringing down the sails. At 0130 the next day. Gabriel
