Our day began early, crisp and fresh at Blakesleys Anchorage. We were awoken to the sound of an old bugle by a fellow classmate, like we were from the time of good ol’ Captain Cook. After demolishing one of two delicious breakfast’s we found our watch groups and commenced with the knot tying competition. After white watch won the competition we were treated to another breakfast that made my tastebuds boogie! We lowered our dinghy into the water and set for a very foreign place that felt… still. LAND! After arriving on shore we played a game of beach footy and met another school group who had their two yachts anchored and camp sites set up. Soon after our very refreshing swim we hopped back in the dinghy and returned to the South Passage. Throughout the morning there were sightings of multiple dugongs which were a spectacular sight.
At 1100 we all put our efforts in to raising the anchor; pumping and pushing on the capstan. We motored down the inside channel between the islands and the Gold Coast mainland. When coming down the inside channel we saw lots of channel markers and marked them off on the chart as we passed them. While we were cruising down the channel we had some very tasty hamburgers for lunch. Arriving at Currigee, we anchored and rode the dinghy to shore. We took a short walk along the beach to the jetty where we jumped, dived and bombed into the water. It was refreshingly chilly but yet totally blissful and worthwhile. As we jumped in with our friends, we watched the sun set and the stunning reflection of the sun against the waters’ gentle ripples. So far it has been such an amazing and inspiring experience which is an opportunity of a life time! Nat and Macy
