South Passage Daily Report
CLIENT: St Stephens College
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20181001
FROM: Hervey Bay To: Manly
DATE: 4 October 2018
POSITION: Tangalooma
REPORT BY: Blue Watch
At 4am, we prepared to set sail with the motor with Blue Watch on watch. At about 9am, we arrived at Wide Bay Harbour at the south end of Fraser Island, where we anchored to wait for the tide to come in. During this time, people were swimming and jumping off the boat.
At 11am, we set sail again to cross the Wide Bay bar with White Watch on watch; however, the whole crew was on deck. We crossed the bar by 2:30pm, and then continued to sail south towards Tangalooma, passing Wolf Rock and Double Island point, then using the Cape Moreton lighthouse as a guide. The conditions while sailing were challenging, with strong tail winds and 2m swells, making for difficult helming. We sailed into the night, with Blue Watch on watch from 8pm till 12am, with White Watch taking over and taking care of all the preparations for the anchorage. We arrived at Tangalooma at 1:45 am, and were anchored by 2:30am.
