South Passage Daily Report

VOYAGE: ISPA: Townsville to Mackay

VOYAGE NO.: 20180817

DATE: 18/8/18

POSITION: Cape Cleveland

REPORT BY: Blue Watch.

Today was our first full day aboard South Passage and what a beautiful day! We woke up at 6:30 to the sound of the bugle. On the breakfast menu was toast, scrambled eggs and baked beans.

Before setting out from the Townsville marina at 8:30 we learnt belaying and backstays. Heading out from Townsville into the bay, we began to prepare to hoist the sails! Blue watch was on the Headsails and we quickly learnt the ins and outs of the boat. The rest of the morning was spent doing tacs, whilst we made our way to Cape Cleveland.

Lunch was salad rolls accompanied by great weather…not a cloud in the sky!

During our watch, we all had turns on the helm and we finally made it to Cape Cleveland at 4:30. After anchoring in the bay, Sailing Master Phill took us over to the shore, where we wondered up to the lighthouse and stretched our legs. Our short time ashore was followed by a knot competition, where the superior blue watch was unbeaten at the round turn at two half hitches.

We are planning tomorrow to sail through the night towards the Whitsundays.
