FROM: Manly To: Manly

DATE: 13 November 2023

POSITION: Peel Is

REPORT: Red Watch

From the early hours of the morning, we all fought to stay awake. Some of us (jack) needed coffee and weren’t massive fans of doing watch at 12 am. It was a unique experience to learn navigation at such an early hour, one that not many of us can say we’ve done before. However, we needed to remind ourselves, that this in fact was beneficial and necessary, which helped us all pull through the sleep deprivation we all felt on some level.

With a late start to the morning, we were all eager to conquer the big sandy hills of Moreton. Enjoying the slow but scenic tender ride, with the occasional splash of water to keep us awake. Several of the watch members conquered the mighty sand hills, including Kenzie feeling pretty proud of pushing through the physical challenge of scaling up the hill. With many of the watch members fighting the heat and steepness in order to climb to the highest part of Moreton. Seeing the whole island was an experience that none of us will forget.

After returning to the ‘South Passage’ we ate a delicious lunch before hoisting the main sail. Once everything was secured, we started our watch. Many of us were fighting the sleep deprivation and heat exhaustion, so once we were off watch, many took a well-deserved nap. We continued our sail and are anchored at Peel Island for the night. Our learning continues as the journey goes on. We have sadly just missed a dolphin pod that came for a visit to the ship as we are down in the saloon writing this, but hopefully we will be able to see some other wildlife tomorrow.
