South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Voyage of Friends Newcastle

VOYAGE NUMBER: 20171109

FROM: Newcastle TO: Brooklyn

DATE: 10 Nov 2017

POSITION: Shoal Bay, Port Stephens

Report by: White Watch

A glorious start to the day moored off Dutchy’s beach with clear skies and Kookaburras laughing. Once underway we sailed between Tomaree and Yaccabah, at the entrance to Port Stephens.

Heading north for Broughton Island we passed various islands, on port side Cabbage Tree and on Starboard Little island and Boondelbah. There was also a fish farm with four pens.

Once anchored in and rubber duckied to Coal Shaft Bay, at the unusual shaped Broughton Island, some of us used a rope to scale the cliff and others used a grassy ramp to reach the trackless walk to Providence Bay. We found a track from this Bay that lead to Esmerelda Bay where there is a NP hut that offers a $25/night stay and fishing shacks all with solar power. Glorious weather and views.

Then back to Coal Shaft Bay for a swim or snorkel for some before back to South passage for a motor-less Sail back to Shoal Bay for a clear evening and calm night. Two knotting competitions punctuated the day! A good time was had by all.
