REPORT: Red Watch
We started our first watch at 12:00 to 01:00 am. It was difficult to stay awake as we had little experience with nighttime shifts. Nevertheless, we managed to win the knotting competition the following morning. The knot tested was the round turn and two half hitches.
At around 7:15, we had a hot breakfast, and afterwards we cleaned and tidied the galley and bathrooms. At 9:00 we started hoisting the sails and getting everything ready for departure and anchor lift. Our second watch started at 10:00. We learnt how to tie some more knots and had different positions where we learnt different things like how to steer a boat, how to navigate, and the various lookout positions. Achieving this effectively, we sailed to Falcon Island and had a relaxing afternoon swim that we all enjoyed.
We learnt a lot when hoisting the sails, and we were in charge of the main sail. It was harsh at first, but we slowly get used to it and did a pretty great job. We sailed to Orpheus Island and anchored there after returning from Falcon Island. We did another knotting competition with the reef knot, and we won again. We finally had a rest and had some delicious dinner and dessert. We really enjoyed our day. It is such a precious experience.
