Report by: Red Watch
This morning at 0500 we were woken by Jack and Mitchell who had just finished their 0400 to 0500 watch. We met Phil in the galley and began to fill in the logbook for our watch. We recorded our position, the weather, wind speed and direction, the barometer from the navigation table. Then we travelled outside and took bearings to objects as well as counting the boats nearby and checking if the anchor light was still on. We then returned to the coach house and woke up the rest of the red watch and started polishing the brass near the helm including the steering wheel and the bell. After that Jess blew the bugle, waking up everyone.
After everyone woke up, breakfast was served and eaten and the knot tying competition began. The winners of the figure of eight knot contest were white watch. Next around 0900 the entire group travelled to Dunk Island via the tender where we walked around the island, swam and jumped off the jetty. Not too long after we all made our way back to the South Passage and all three watches began to raise the foresail and mainsail followed by the jib and staysail.
At 1200 red watch began their second watch for the day where we prepared and carried out tacks, each had a turn at the helm, steering the ship, and at look out. In the evening we participated in a trivia competition with red watch taking out the win, earning everyone red member a Tim-tam.
