South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Volunteer Training Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20230314

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 14 March 2023

POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is

REPORT: White Watch

Today was the first day of a two-day training sail for new crew members. The day was enjoyed by all as a great day of sailing as well as a valuable opportunity to learn new skills and meet new friends. We departed Manly after a briefing by Captain Phil and sailing master Robyn at 9:00.

We sailed throughout the day without the need for assistance from the engine in marvellous weather with 10-15 knot winds and a sunny sky. All watches hoisted the sails and then broke into individual watches and practiced tacking many times per watch.

At 16:00 we anchored at Moreton Island with many crew taking the opportunity for a refreshing swim. This was followed by a knotting competition.

Cook Cath provided a delicious dinner of butter chicken followed by sticky date pudding, cream and custard.
