South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Churchie Bronze Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20221021

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 22 October 2022

POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is

REPORT BY: Red Watch

Today we were woken up by the annoying bugle player. Early in the morning, red watch had cereal and participated in the knot competition. We tied first for the knot competition with white watch on the reef knot and won first for the figure eight knot. After the competition, red watch had a hot breakfast with eggs and toast. Red watch then had the backstay competition; we came second in the backstay competition behind white watch.

After the competition, red watch began their 10-12am watch rotation in which all members of red watch plotted co-ordinates, steered the helm, and look out for obstacles in the ship’s way. During this watch we also raised the main sail. The weather during the sailing voyage towards the Big Sandhills was windy and rainy.

We arrived at our destination of the Big Sandhills at 2:40pm in which red watch began to take down the main sail, which was also our assigned sail for the day. The afternoon knot competition consisted of both the clove hitch and the bowline. Red watch won the bowline by over 2 minutes and lost the clove hitch by 2 seconds. Red watch then had dinner with sausage and mash. Red watch then began their 2nd watch of the day which lasted between 1800-2000hrs.
