South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Silver Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20220920

FROM: Manly to Hervey Bay

DATE: 20 September 2022

POSITION: Cowan Cowan, Moreton Is

REPORT BY: White Watch

This morning began with the crew boarding the ship as the sun rays shone on our face as the seagulls squawked. After a few hours of preparation, we were ready to wave goodbye to our parents and embark on our journey that would change our lives. As we left the dock, we were given in depth explanations into how to prepare the sails with a bosun designated who would read out all the instructions for the rest of the team to follow.

During the White Team’s watch, we rotated through our positions: being at the helm, looking out over the Port and Starboard side, those assisting these watchers and the person checking the ropes on the deck. After completing these tasks, the watches began as the other groups had time to either lounge below deck or spend time in the sun.

Throughout the day, we spotted three dolphin pods, a few starfish, and a turtle! After anchoring, we managed to get some time to take the dinghy out to have a swim and explore on Cowan Cowan, Moreton Island and to further embrace our relationships with the cast and crew. After an hour, we then hurried back to the ship to freshen up and continue with a rope tying competition.

Hugh, our delightful chef, then proceeded to create a lovely dinner of chicken, peas, rice, and gravy, followed by a delectable dessert of apple pie and custard. To finish the night, the rest of the crew sat and chatted while the White Watch completed their duties around the ship on top deck – including writing this report. Overall, the day was fun and productive!
