FROM: Cairns TO: Townsville

DATE: 16 July 2017

POSITION: Dunk Island

Report by: White Watch

Today’s weather was beautiful. We left Fitzroy just after sunrise, around 6:30am. The day was calm with blue skies; much nicer than yesterday. We sailed for about 13.5 hours and arrived at Dunk Island at around 8:00pm. Everyone got a lot of practice tacking today. The highlight of the day was spotting a young humpback whale. It swam quite close to the boat and even went under it! Emma and Jess saw a dolphin riding the bow wave. Almost everyone got on the bowsprit today, it’s so much fun sitting on the net and watching the water underneath you. The water was so calm that no one was sea sick. Everyone is much more confident today and knows what they are doing a little more. Food for the day was a cereal first breakfast, then scrambled eggs with baked beans and toast. Lunch was hamburgers and dinner was sausages and mash potato. Desert was sticky date pudding with cream or custard.
