South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Mareeba SHS

VOYAGE NUMBER: 20170617

FROM: Cairns TO: Cairns

DATE: 18 June 2017

POSITION: Fitzroy Island

Report by: White Watch

We set off from Vlasoff Cay at 1015, and headed south to Fitzroy. We sailed straight into the wind so we practised lots of tacking. It was fairly windy with waves braking, the wind speed was around 20 knots. Sitting up the front of the boat on the bowsprit was pretty amazing, we got pretty wet but still had a good time.

At around 1530 we arrived at Fitzroy Island where we jumped off the boat to swim and spent some time on the beach. Next we had our rope tying competition. It’s always good to learn how to tie new knots, and today’s knots were the Figure 8 and the Reef Knot.

Next it was time for dinner which was sausages with mashed potato and sticky date pudding for dessert. White watch’s next shift wasn’t until 20.00 so we just hung around playing games and having fun.
